Why Movement-Based Design!? Exploring Methods and Experiences in MBD. A DIS 2024 workshop (on-site only, Copenhagen 1st-5th July 2024).

https://exertiongameslab.org/workshops-events/dis-2024-why-movement-based-design

The somatic turn in HCI calls for a deeper understanding of embodied user experiences. By engaging the body as a source of creativity, we can enrich our interactions with technology, promoting physical activity, health, and joy. Beyond technological aspects, movement-based design extends to crafting artifacts, environments, or activities that enhance or utilize human motion. This approach diverges from traditional interface design by prioritizing values like natural interaction, inclusion of knowledge from movement sciences, and promoting health through physical activity. This workshop builds upon outcomes of the MeCaMInD project, which focuses on curating a collection of movement-based design methods through an accessible and easy-to-navigate method toolbox. This primarily hands-on workshop aims to bring together practitioners and researchers working on and interested in movement-based design. Workshop participants will be offered a platform to collectively discuss and explore current approaches, methods, and tools in movement-based design, and exchange insights and experiences on these methods in practice.

Join us for an enriching exploration of the intersection between movement and design, contributing to the scholarly discourse in this dynamic field. To apply, submit your vision or reflections on movement-based design methods in the form of a 2-4-page paper (single-column ACM template), or a 5-minute audio/video contribution. Each submission should contain at least one example and two key insights and two challenges.

Submissions will be reviewed by the organizers and selected according to their relevance to the workshop and the likelihood of sparking discussions. Please note that at least one author of each accepted submission must attend the workshop, and that DIS is in-person only this year.

• Submission deadline: 15.05.2024
• Notification to authors: 15.06.2024

Submit your work by sending a pdf (max 2.5mb, in case of position paper) or a link to your video to vincent.vanrheden-at-plus.ac.at.
